Benoy Peter, Ph.D.

A specialist in policy and advocacy, Benoy Peter has over two decades of progressive experience in assignments ranging from grassroots programme to policy and advocacy, particularly in the area of Migration/Displacement, Public Health and Social Inclusion. He is a member of the international advisory committee that guides the preparation of the action plan for the implementation of the National Strategy on Internal Displacement, Government of Bangladesh. An expert on internal migration in India, Benoy Peter was a member of the Working Group for designing Targeted Interventions (Phase IV) among Migrant Populations in India, constituted by Department of AIDS Control, Government of India. He is also a member of the Technical Advisory Committee that guides the research on migrant inclusion in COVID-19 vaccination programme being jointly undertaken by IOM and UNFPA in India. Peter headed the consortium of organisations in the preparation of the policy paper ‘Road Map for the Inclusion of Internal Migrant Workers in India’s Policy Framework’ for the ILO DWT for South Asia. Peter was instrumental in rolling out Bandhu Clinic, India’s first active mobile COVID-19 screening unit for migrant workers. He is also instrumental in rolling out India’s first mobile COVID vaccination unit by a CSO for migrant workers. Benoy Peter has worked in Bangladesh and India and has provided technical support to programmes in Sri Lanka, Philippines and South Africa. He has a Ph.D. in Population Studies (Migration) from the International Institute for Population Sciences, India. Benoy Peter is one of the founders of CMID and currently serves as the Executive Director.
